Athletic director Jeremy Foley said last week that it was expected new head coach Will Muschamp would come close to filling out -- if not completely fill out -- his first coaching staff at Florida by Tuesday.
Ahead of that soft “deadline”, Muschamp has gotten a sizable jump on the on the post-Urban Meyer era with the announcement of a quintet of hirings.
According to a release on the school’s official website, Muschamp has officially hired the following five coaches, most of whom have been previously reported: Aubrey Hill (wide receivers), Travaris Robinson (defensive backs), D.J. Durkin (running backs/special teams coordinator), Brian White (tight ends) and Stan Drayton (running backs coach/recruiting coordinator).
The latter three hires will be holdovers from Meyer’s staff.
“I thought it was important to have some continuity in the staff – D.J., Stan and Brian bring that to the table,” Muschamp said. “They are also solid recruiters. Aubrey is obviously a Gator, and it’s always a plus when you have someone coach at their alma mater. He understands the passion and the expectations here, and I know he is excited to return to Gainesville.
“Travaris worked on our staff and Auburn and is a winner. He has competed at the highest level in this sport and is a good young coach with strong ties to the South Florida area, which will benefit us in recruiting.”
Another very sizable -- both literally and figuratively -- hiring should be announced Monday. Based on multiple reports, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Charlie Weis will be announced Monday as Muschamp’s new coordinator.
