JoePa denies Bolden a release from Penn State scholarship

It was reported over the weekend that Robert Bolden was looking to transfer from Penn State.

While that may ultimately happen, a meeting with the coaching staff Tuesday has shown that moving on will not be an easy proposition.

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, head coach Joe Paterno denied the quarterback’s request for a release from his scholarship. The denial came in a meeting that also involved Paterno’s son Jay, the school’s quarterbacks coach.

“I don’t agree with it and Rob doesn’t agree with it,” Bolden’s father told the paper.

Bolden’s mother said that she didn’t know why Paterno denied the release, but she’s pleased with the development because she does not want her son to leave the school.

“I didn’t want Rob to leave,” Tonia Williams said. “I think he should stay there. I just told him that I thought he was making the wrong decision. I really felt that he moved just a little bit too quick and too fast.”

“I don’t know what’s going to happen now. He tried to get them to sign his release papers and they didn’t do it. I don’t know if that is going to make the situation worse or not, or if Rob will end up at another school.”

As for what’s next for Bolden, his father said they’ll “try and sort that out now.”
