Getty ImagesWell, that was certainly expeditious.
Just a couple of hours after reports first emerged that Michigan was in talks with Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Greg Mattison regarding the same position in Ann Arbor, Brady Hoke indeed has found a new coordinator in a familiar face.
While the school has yet to confirm the hiring, the Ravens’ official website announced the promotion of Chuck Pagano to coordinator after Mattison agreed to become Hoke’s first defensive coordinator at Michigan. U-M is expected to release a statement either later tonight or tomorrow announcing Mattison’s hiring.
“We’re excited for our defense and for Chuck, and we’re happy for Greg Mattison,” said Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. “I will talk more about it tomorrow when we formally announced Chuck as our new coordinator in a press conference.”
As previously noted, Hoke and Mattison have a fairly extensive history together, serving on staffs at both Western Michigan and Michigan. Mattison was U-M’s coordinator in 1995 and 1996, while Hoke served as defensive ends coach.
It had to be expeditious, because signing day is almost here.
Great hire for Michigan. The defense was terrible, this is a step in the right direction. It’s no fun beating the pants off them year in, year out when they just roll over.
Amen – way to go Brady!
Why would he leave the NFL? They must have backed a Brinks truck up to his house.
