Mother of Jacoby Brissett not happy with son’s decision to attend UF

Earlier, JT blogged that Dwyer HS (FL) quarterback Jacoby Brissett appeared to be on his way to signing with Florida.

That rumor came to fruition just a few hours ago when Brissett made the official announcement at his senior night basketball ceremony just before tip-off, rather than on National Signing Day two days ago.

Brissett, who was honored during the pregame ceremony along with his family, hugged his mother, gave her a rose, and grabbed the microphone.

“Next year I’m going to play at the University of Florida,” Brissett said.

The announcement was met with mixed reactions.

Some fans attending the game adorned in Miami paraphernalia either booed or walked out, while others in the stands cheered.

But it was the reaction of Brissett’s mother that was the most surprising.

“Not my choice,” said Ellicia Brown. “I’m very disappointed. I didn’t like the way Florida handled the process. I’ve never been able to meet the head coach ... I’ve never met (Will Muschamp) face-to-face and I find that very disrespectful and I’m just hurt with the whole process with the Gators. I was hoping that he [Brissett] would respect me and go to ‘The U’ because ‘The U’ showed respect to his mom.”

Harsh, but to Brown’s credit, Brissett actually informed her of his decision via text message, a la Bryce Brown, a couple of hours before the game.

“He knew I would be hurt and disappointed,” (Ellicia) Brown said. “So he texted me.”

Brissett will officially send his LOI to Florida on Monday, giving mommy dearest two full days to try and sway her son.

Whether she does or not won’t matter; the recruiting SNAFU is done and I, for one, am going to give this situation what it rightly deserves:
