Update: Podolak in stable condition

Ed Podolak, long-time radio analyst for Iowa Hawkeyes football, appears to be recovering well from severe injuries sustained over the weekend.

Podolak was run over by a vehicle in Scottsdale, Ariz., Saturday evening and sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries. While he remains hospitalized, Podolak has improved to the point where he’s now listed in stable condition.

Earlier Tuesday evening, a statement attributed to his daughter Laura Podolak was released through the school.

“My dad remains in stable condition in a Scottsdale area hospital. He continues to undergo minor surgeries to repair his injuries. He is alert and remains in good spirits, but is requesting privacy. At this time, Dad is not accepting visitors or phone calls, and we are asking people not to send gifts or flowers, until further notice.

“We want to thank everyone for their words of kindness and concern during this difficult time. The outpouring of support has been overwhelming.

“If you’d like to leave my dad a message, we’ve set up an Ed Podolak Facebook page. It can be accessed by searching for Ed Podolak on facebook.com.”

Incidentally, Podolak was issued a citation for failing to cross the street in a crosswalk. A Scottsdale police department spokesperson told the Des Moines Register that issuing a citation was “pretty cut and dry from an administrative standpoint.”
