Auburn reportedly lands ex-Gator RB Blakely

Mike Blakely

Upon deciding to leave the Florida football program earlier this month, one of the stipulations of Mike Blakely obtaining a release from his UF scholarship was that he could not transfer to another SEC school, as well as Miami or Florida State.

Apparently, the conference stipulation has been tweaked.  Or Blakely’s going to pay his own tuition freight in 2011.

Regardless,‘s Auburn-specific website is reporting that the running back has enrolled at the university and will play for the defending national champions after sitting out this season.  After satisfying NCAA transfer rules, Blakely will have four years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2012.

Auburn has yet to confirm the addition of Blakely.

Blakely, a member of UF’s 2011 recruiting class, was an early enrollee and was slated to take part in spring practice this year, but was sidelined by a shoulder issue. had Blakely rated as the No. 6 RB in the country this year.

Auburns backfield will be crazy good for the next few years. Very young oline this year but will only get better under coach grimes and malzahn

I wish him well. I was a bit surprised when he signed given that he would initially be buried in the depth chart at ~5th or so. This move makes sense for him.

Me too “noaxe”. Seeing as Blakely gained ZERO yards on ZERO carries and caught ZERO passes for ZERO yards, in total scoring ZERO touchdowns, I’m curious too, which game impressed you “soflatrojan”, or did he do such a marvelous job holding a clipboard that you figured he’d naturally step right in to a starting spot on the defending national champions?
