Texas safety popped on an assault charge

C’mon, Texas can’t allow in-state rival Texas A&M to grab all of today’s negative headlines, can they?

According to the Austin American-Statesman, safety Christian Scott was arrested early Monday afternoon and charged with misdemeanor assault with bodily injury. No details of what led to the arrest have been released.

Scott remains jailed as of the writing of this post.

The school has yet to comment on the situation -- they are expected to release a statement after practice tonight -- and it’s unclear what type of punishment the fifth-year senior will receive as a result of the arrest.

The 25 games Scott has appeared in as a Longhorn includes 10 starts, all of which came during the 2010 season. He missed the entire 2009 regular season due to academic issues, but played in the BcS title game in January of 2010.

Scott was a four-star member of UT’s 2007 recruiting class.
