Tulsa suspends All-American WR indefinitely

Just a short while ago, I noted that Tulsa’s All-American wide receiver and return specialist Damaris Johnson was caught up in a bizarre act of embezzlement with his girlfriend, an employee at Macy’s.

A police report states that Johnson received discounts for store merchandise at nearly unimaginable levels, and although Johnson’s girlfriend was thrown in jail for her involvement, Johnson was initially released by authorities after questioning with no charges filed.

That doesn’t mean, though, that he won’t feel the wrath of his coach, Bill Blankenship. The Associated Press writes today that Blankenship, entering his first year as the Golden Hurricane’s head coach, has suspended Johnson indefinitely.

We’ve taken a stance on the information that we have, but I’m not naïve,” Blankenship said. “I think there’s always more information, so we’re going to let this thing play out.”

Johnson, the NCAA’s leader in career all-purpose yards, was the team’s leading receiver last year with 57 receptions for 872 yards and four touchdowns. He was also the team’s second-leading rusher with 560 yards and seven touchdowns, and returned a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown.
