Sandusky: ‘Horsed around with kids I have showered… hugged them… without intent of sexual contact’

Gerald "Jerry" Sandusky AP

Jerry Sandusky had not granted any extensive interviews since being charged with 40 counts of the the sexual abuse of children Nov. 4.  Based on the content of the “message” he will try to get out Monday night, the alleged pedophile should’ve kept it that way.

In an exclusive phone interview with NBC SportsBob Costas, Sandusky once again proclaimed his innocence, although in doing so likely damned himself in the court of public opinion even more than he was already.

When asked by Costas if he was a pedophile, Sandusky gave the expected response: “no”.  Then, when asked about the shower allegations contained in the grand jury’s indictment of him for sexually abusing at least eight children, Sandusky gave an answer that allows viewers a revolting peek inside the mind of what appears to be a disturbed, sick, twisted “man”.

“I could say that I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids I have showered [with] after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their legs without intent of sexual contact,” Sandusky told Costas.

So, in Sandusky’s warped view of the world, it’s OK for a naked 50-some-year-old man to shower with an equally naked boy, to hug them, to touch their legs?  And that’s without even mentioning the fact that he was showering alone with at least one his alleged victims in the first place.

Sandusky did concede, though, that he “shouldn’t have showered with those kids.”

Gee, ya think?!?

Again, Costas’ interview with Sandusky will air in its entirety at 10 p.m. ET tonight on your local NBC affiliate.

    Mister Sandusky,

Showering with Kids is still inappropriate behavior and you would have still lost your job at Penn State and Second Mile. You have a problem you need to apologise and get help!

  2. justthefacts11 says: Nov 14, 2011 8:27 PM

sandusky will soon be in a place where he will be on the receiving end of getting sodomized in the shower.

  3. deadeye says: Nov 14, 2011 8:34 PM

Sandusky still thinks he can trick the world and get away with his crimes. This doesn’t bode well for getting honest and truthful testimony from him concerning the people who helped cover all this up for so many years.

  4. drunkenagitator says: Nov 14, 2011 8:36 PM

And O.J. was just “horsing around” with that knife, right? Not only did Sandusky dig his own grave, but now he’s throwing dirt on himself too.

  5. rendadoll says: Nov 14, 2011 8:47 PM

Sandusky needs to use his Miranda Rights the one where he should remain silent…. Oh yeah, he is so digging his grave….. Everytime he opens his mouth he digs himself in deeper….

CNN reported a couple of nights ago that Sandusky’s attorney said his defense will be that it’s common for people involved in athletics to shower together. Do they actually think that defense will hold together against victim and eyewitness testimony of sexual assault??

  7. goblue714 says: Nov 14, 2011 8:57 PM

Well here it is, the it’s all a big misunderstanding defense. All it takes is a couple of morons on the jury to set this creep free, every high profile jury has them.

    ===========================

Unlike O.J. Simpson’s victims, Sandusky’s victims will be able to testify as to his crimes against them. Should he somehow be found “not guilty”, Sandusky will make O.J. look like a novice.

I can’t believe anyone would even grant this piece of garbage an interview. He is a disgusting individual and what he’s saying now is ridiculous. The only thing he should do is apologize for what he’s done and accept that noone will ever forgive him or take pity on him. But instead he tries to make out like “oh all I was doing was showing with a little boy and hugging him and touching his legs” Bubba’s gonna touch more than ur leg in the big house and u deserve every bit of it.

Listening on TV…sure sounded like a old fool. I agree with Deb. Also, nothing in athletics is common about 50+ year old men horsing around in the shower with 10 year olds.

    Horsing around? Riiiiiight!

    Sick f’er.

NOT a Sandusky fan, but sheesh, he should STFU!!!!

Deb, I thought that this article was interesting as far as the “shower defense” is concerned. I suppose most of the posters here have read it.

Costas was weak and did not probe very deep. I am a former college athlete who NEVER saw a 10 year old in the shower for my four years…sick SOB really thinks that current and former athletes will testify that this happens?

  20. thefiesty1 says: Nov 14, 2011 11:09 PM

He better shut up and not do any more interviews. Guilty as sin. Sick SOB.

  21. superfbfan says: Nov 14, 2011 11:10 PM

WTF!? This guy has got to be crazy…How he can show his face in public is beyond me..even Paterno won’t come out of his house…

  22. manhorse69 says: Nov 14, 2011 11:11 PM

Lawyer was sitting right there. Pretty sure there was a pretty tight leash on the questions that could be asked. Can’t imagine the delusional world Sandusky lives in where showering with boys and touching any part of them is just a simple matter of circumstance. His lawyer will need some serious smoke and mirrors

  23. highoctane1 says: Nov 14, 2011 11:16 PM

His attorney ought to be disbarred for allowing that interview. In addition to sounding guilty as hell, Sandusky sounder tired, weak, and scared. If I was his lawyer those three adjectives would not drive me to think “Gee, he’ll be perfect in an interview. That will sway public opinion!”

The worst part was when he took about forty seconds to answer the simple question of whether he was sexually attracted to young boys, the first 39 of which he spent talking about how much he loves being with them. Michael Jackson would think this guy is sick.

  24. Deb says: Nov 14, 2011 11:18 PM

    @dmcgrann …

Wow … I hadn’t read that article. The whole shower thing he mentioned is really … odd. But he’s right about Paterno. I couldn’t claim with a straight face that Nick Saban called the AD at Bama and turned over something like this and never knew anything else about it. Come on … coaches like Saban and Paterno run their programs. Nothing happens at those schools without the coach’s okay. They don’t ask the ADs to handle something–they tell the ADs how to handle it.

  25. sweepthleg says: Nov 14, 2011 11:27 PM

    The Sandusky defense,

“What, if they didn’t want people to horse around in the shower they would’ve put a divider there like at the urinals. Obviously your not suppose to “horse around” with that divider there. Really, it’s Penn State’s fault for not putting a warning like at the public pool. Yeah, that’s the ticket!”

This guy is why they invented tall trees and rope.

  26. onceuponatimeinsports says: Nov 14, 2011 11:38 PM

We’re now placed in the unenviable position of believing either Sandusky or McCreary.

They can’t both be telling the truth….

  27. atchick says: Nov 14, 2011 11:57 PM

“CNN reported a couple of nights ago that Sandusky’s attorney said his defense will be that it’s common for people involved in athletics to shower together. Do they actually think that defense will hold together against victim and eyewitness testimony of sexual assault??”

If you read the former assistant’s account, all the coaches showered together in a plexiglass area….not hidden from anyone. And conversations regarding plays and players abilities took place there.

As for Sandusky saying his innocent, this does not surprise me. When’s the last time you heard a pedofile say “yep, I’m a degenerent monster. I like little boys”. Of course he will lie and cover it up. He’s had a decade to think up his alibis. And his lawyer thinks they’ve found the kid from the shower? On who’s lead…Sandusky’s? The man has manipulated a prominent university, a multi-million dollar charity, and the NCAA. Now he’s snowed his lawyer, or he’s just as talented a liar as Sandusky.

  28. atchick says: Nov 15, 2011 12:00 AM

Unlike O.J. Simpson’s victims, Sandusky’s victims will be able to testify as to his crimes against them. Should he somehow be found “not guilty”,

He will have to be tried by a 3 judge panel I fear. His case is too public. Even with a change of venue, try finding someone who doesn’t know the details of the GJ report. You’ll have to find 12 people living off the grid!

  29. samel2003 says: Nov 15, 2011 12:26 AM

All of america was listening mandicksy. And they are all NOT as trusting and unsuspecting as the group you’ve been spending you’re time with. While on bail, train and get ready for you’re beautiful moment with bubba your face day at your new home. He likes showers too.

  31. norcalirish says: Nov 15, 2011 7:58 AM

Just when I thought this couldn’t get any more unbelievable…. enter the classic Michael Jackson defense.

  32. southpaw2k says: Nov 15, 2011 12:27 PM

I have to wonder when it comes time to select a jury for his trial, how can they possibly find 12 people who haven’t already made up their own opinions on the case one way or the other? OJ’s trial was difficult enough to put together considering his celebrity status, but that was well before this era of blogs, news articles online, Google, Twitter, etc.

When is the media going to acknowledge it’s epic fail to expose Sandusky when he retired in 1999. When a guy who’s on the yellow brick road to replace Joe Paterno up and quits for no apparent reason at age 55 and doesn’t move to another head coaching job it should raise a million red flags. If Sandusky had been giving the kids steroids the press might have looked into it. I think sports reporters are to sports what business reporters are to Wall Street: Star apologists. If Bob Costas had been doing his job back in 1999 maybe this tragedy could have been cut short.

  34. dmcgrann says: Nov 15, 2011 9:17 PM

Really? Bob Costas should have stopped this in its tracks? Don’t think I can agree with you, but I understand your point.

But I don’t know that Sandusky was any kind of hot coaching commodity in 1999. Maybe so, maybe not. What is apparent is that he was able to retire at age 55 because of the somewhat strange tenure/seniority system that Penn State has for its football coaching staff. He could grab a decent state-funded pension at age 55, not worry about the trials and tribulations of coaching, stay in town, be honored as a commencement speaker at PSU from time to time, have access to University facilities, get his face on a mural in downtown State College, and do what he wanted to do. Pretty cushy existence.

My guess is that the “yellow brick road” to replace Paterno became a bit tarnished when he finally realized that Joe wasn’t going to go anywhere. It probably didn’t help Sandusky’s view of his future role at Penn State when Jay Paterno was hired in 1995.

    Except Jackson didn’t.

No child was ever forced to sleep in Jackson’s bed; they asked to sleep in his room because they wanted to be around him. They’re parents always had to give permission, and many times the parents themselves would sleep in his room. Not because they intended to sleep together!

This was confirmed in the trial in the testimonies of Macaulay Culkin, Brett Barnes, and Wade Robeson, and their parents and siblings. It should also be noted that Michael Jackson stopped letting kids and parents sleep in his bedroom after the 2005 trial, just as Mesereau pointed out while on the Jay Leno show a few days after the acquittal.

In a video made before the 2005 trial, Gavin Arviso clearly said Jackson slept on the floor. The boys slept in the bed. However, by the time Larry Feldman, Thomas Sneddon and co had coached the Arviso family (who coincidentally alleged sexual abuse against guards at a J C Penney store when they were legitmately picked up for shoplifing) they changed their story and their timeline.

    Yes, really.

It is not suprising many do not know this. There is little to no clear reporting of the 2005 case on record apart from the incredible work done by Jonna Silbor, legal analyst and Linda Deutsch from the Associated press.

Time to stop trying Michael Jackson; the Sandusky case is not only utterly repellent — it is its own case and should be judged as such.
