Gary Crowton moves into non-coaching role with Maryland

Just two days after it was ann0unced that Maryland offensive coordinator Gary Crowton would not return to the team next season, we now have a reason why.

Well, sort of.

A release from the school today revealed that Crowton has taken an administrative role with the program. The terms of the new position can be for up to three months at a maximum salary of $125,000.

“We thank Gary for his service and wish him well in this new role and beyond,” coach Randy Edsall said.

Crowton was in his first year with the Terps, a job that was paying him more than $500,000 annually. He reportedly has been replaced by former New Mexico coach Mike Locksley.

Crowton had recently expressed his interest in the Colorado State job, which eventually went to Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain.
