Yep, the wonders of a college football offseason.
According to the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Iowa State defensive back Matt Thomas was charged recently with fourth-degree theft. There were no details available of what led to the Thomas’ arrest or the charges he’s currently facing, although the paper described the charge as “a serious misdemeanor”.
A school official confirmed to the Gazette that Thomas has been indefinitely suspended by head coach Paul Rhoads due to the incident.
A member of ISU’s 2010 recruiting class, Thomas redshirted his true freshman season and did not record a statistic of any kind ion 2011. Currently, though, he leads the Cyclones in 2012 arrests.
My guess is being the leader in arrests, is not exactly what the kid hoped for. Not much details here to say what was involved in the crime. It could be something along the lines of what the two kids at UGA did, in trying to steal from their own team mates. Although the theft was handled in house, the two young men were released from their scholarships and will not be back on the team again. It is amazing to me, how some of these young kids, can throw away an opportunity like they have.
