Rutgers loses pair of assistants to the NFL

Nine days after completing his first coaching staff at Rutgers, Kyle Flood suddenly has a couple of hills to fill.

An RU official confirmed to the Newark Star-Ledger Wednesday night that special teams coordinator Phil Galiano and running backs coach Ben Sirmans are leaving for jobs with NFL clubs. The former will be reuniting with Greg Schiano with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while the latter is headed to the St. Louis Rams.

Galiano becomes the fifth former member of Schiano’s Scarlet Knights’ staff to reunite with their former college boss at the professional level.

Sirmans was hired Feb. 13 by Flood, leaving Boston College to take the RBs job at RU.

In addition to Galiano and Sirmans, graduate assistant Andrew Janocko is leaving to become the offensive quality control coach with, you guessed it, Schiano’s Bucs.
