Clemson, Purdue finalists for ex-Sooner LB

The reality, however, is the former is far and away considered the front-runner.

As reported late last week, former Oklahoma linebacker Kellen Jones visited Clemson over the weekend, with the Tigers viewed as the leaders for the linebacker’s services thanks to the presence of Brent Venables on the Tigers’ coaching staff. Venables was on OU’s staff during Jones’ lone season in Norman, but left to take over Clemson’s defense in the offseason.

Jones also visited Purdue the previous weekend, telling Tulsa World that the he’ll choose between the Boilermakers and Tigers at some point in the not-too-distant future. The paper writes that the ACC school is “the prohibitive favorite” to land Jones, due in large part to his preexisting relationship with Venables.

Jones announced last summer that he would be transferring from Michigan, and ultimately landed in Norman in August. A three-star member of the Wolverines’ 2011 recruiting class, Jones played in 12 games as a true freshman at OU last season.

Regardless of where he lands, Jones will be forced to sit out the 2012 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules.
