Sandusky’s attorney says his client will testify

The first big revelation of the Jerry Sandusky trial, which began today, was supposed to be the reading of “love letters” allegedly written by Sandusky to his victims. Instead, the trial didn’t even get through opening statements before the defense came out with a surprise of its own.

Sandusky’s attorney, Joe Amendola, said this morning that his client will testify and explain himself to the jury. The move apparently came as a surprise to prosecutors, who began by showing a slideshow of the alleged victims.

“This is a daunting task, the state has overwhelming evidence against Mr. Sandsuky,” Amendola said. “A tidal wave of media coverage, so many accusers. I just don’t know [what to say] …

One of the keys to this case is to keep an open mind. What you are going to hear originally is going to be very, very easy to say, ‘I’ve heard enough, I don’t want to hear it. This is awful.’ ”

Sandusky participated in a phone interview with NBC Sports’ Bob Costas last November while Amendola sat beside Costas on live TV. And everyone remembers how that went...
