Tommy Rees pleads guilty to pair of misdemeanors

Notre Dame quarterback Tommy Rees previously pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanor counts stemming from a house party bust in early May.

Yeah, scratch that.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Rees has instead pleaded guilty to a pair of misdemeanor charges -- resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor, and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, a Class C misdemeanor -- while two other charges against him -- a second resisting law enforcement charge and a Class A battery charge -- were dropped.

As part of the plea agreement, Rees will face a 30-day suspended sentence, 11-month probation period, 50 hours of community service and letters of apology to the officers involved in arresting him.

“I apologize to my family, friends, the Notre Dame community, Fighting Irish fans and the South Bend Police Department for my actions this spring,” Rees said in a statement. “I made a poor decision and I accept full responsibility.

“I learned a valuable lesson and witnessed first-hand that actions have consequences. This experience will make me a better person and I will focus on being a positive role model and citizen. To those who supported me during this difficult time, I offer my sincerest thanks. To the people I disappointed, I am dedicated to winning back your trust and confidence.”

It’s the last legal hurdle Rees had to overcome, but he still could face internal discipline with the university and head coach Brian Kelly.

Rees, 20, tried to evade officers who broke up an off-campus house party back in May. His lack of mobility under pressure has apparently been counted as a strike against him in the Irish’s four-way QB race heading into this fall.
