Jeff Driskel ‘injury’ news offers plenty of confusion, but few details

The world of instant news -- it can be a good and bad thing.

The supposed injury news surrounding Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel floating through the interwebs on Tuesday was a prime example of the latter. So was the Michael Dyer story.

Driskel, currently competing with Jacoby Brissett for the starting job, reportedly suffered what was initially said to be a “significant shoulder injury” during today’s practice, according Robbie Andreu of the Gainesville Sun. Obviously, that would be a deciding factor in who starts for the Gators this fall.

That turned out not to be the case, apparently. Coach Will Muschamp later released a statement through Gatorsports.com that eased some concerns over Driskel’s reported injury, but kept details to be desired.

“Jeff was at practice today and will be taking reps at practice Wednesday,’' Muschamp said.

The statement doesn’t say if Driskel actually took snaps today or yesterday. Andreu went on to report that Driskel suffered an injury over the weekend, although it’s not clear when. In fairness to Andreu, other outlets picked up on the Driskel news as well. However, Muschamp didn’t mention anything about Driskel on Monday during his injury report.

The soonest anyone will get to ask Muschamp about Driskel is on Friday. Seems like a lot of unnecessary confusion, though.

Hopefully, we’ll get an update on Driskel -- or, if nothing else, a clarification -- sooner rather than later. At that point, we’ll pass it on.
