Report says Honey Badger is in drug rehab

Any chance of former LSU cornerback Tyrann Mathieu playing at all this fall -- anywhere -- has been put on hold.

Instead, Honey Badger will remain at Right Step drug recovery center in Houston, according to Mathieu’s father. Mathieu has been in drug rehab since Monday. WVUE in New Orleans first reported the news:

The Honey Badger’s father, Tyrone Mathieu, tells FOX 8 Sports that he and Tyrann agree -- until he conquers his demons, he won’t be successful at his future endeavors, wherever they unfold. The senior Mathieu says both Tyrann and his family are committed to restoring Tyrann’s health, no matter what it takes, believing football will take care of itself down the road.

Mathieu was dismissed from the team last week following what was reported to be yet another failed drug test. Since his release, rumors have circulated over where the All-American would land next, including 1-AA McNeese State or possibly a one-year hiatus before returning to LSU’s football program.

It doesn’t look like either of those is a possibility right now. Mathieu will not be attending any classes at any school this fall, per his father. Given the small amount of information that anybody knows about Mathieu’s situation, this sounds like the right m0ve. Mathieu needs to get his head right; everything else in his life will follow.

Here’s hoping Mathieu gets it figured out, whatever “it” means to him.
