APSouth Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said earlier this week that quarterback Connor Shaw would be a “game-time decision” for East Carolina. Well, it’s game day, and Spurrier’s decided to go in another direction.
Speaking to ESPN’s Cara Capuano, Spurrier said that backup Dylan Thompson will get the start for the No. 9 Gamecocks against the Pirates.
Shaw suffered a shoulder contusion during the first half of last Thursday’s 17-13 win over Vanderbilt. Spurrier added Sunday that Shaw was having problems lifting his arm. Thompson came in briefly for Shaw in the opener, but did not record any passing stats. Shaw finished the game with just 67 yards passing.
Great game for the Cocks! Nice to see proof that there is some depth at QB and also nice to see that D perform to expectations.
All in all a great game to set up the rest of the schedule…I would love to see Thompson become a tandem to Shaw….
