Less than a day after being charged with domestic violence, Chris Dunkley has been handed punitive measures by the football program.
In a release sent out Sunday night, the Bulls announced that the wide receiver has been indefinitely suspended as a result of charges that were filed against him Saturday night.
“Our players have an obligation to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner on and off the field,” USF head coach Skip Holtz said in a statement. “Due to the serious nature of this matter, we have suspended Chris indefinitely from all team activities.”
Dunkley was charged with domestic violence battery Saturday night, just a couple of hours after the Bulls’ home loss to Florida State. The Tampa Tribune offered up a few details of what led to Dunkley’s arrest and the subsequent charge:According to deputies, Dunkley was arrested for an incident that took place Sept. 21 at about 7:20 p.m. inside the apartment he shares with his girlfriend. That night, Dunkley and his girlfriend began to argue and at some point it turned physical, the report said.
The girlfriend, whose identity was not released by the sheriff’s office, was thrown to the floor and beaten on her arms, causing bruises, the report said. A short time later Dunkley pulled the woman by her hair, according to the report, forcing her into a closet. Deputies said he beat her with a computer cord on the back of her thighs, which left cuts.
In the report, deputies said there is a “strong likelihood of repeat violence.”
After sitting out the 2011 season following his transfer from Florida, Dunkley this season had four receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown.
