Franklin to play in Mizzou’s next game? ‘That’s the plan’

After suffering a 42-10 beating at the hands of No. 1 Alabama, the upcoming bye weekend will allow the Tigers to lick the wounds from not only that loss but its three other SEC losses as well.

It may also help a wounded offensive starter to return to the playing field as well.

James Franklin, who’s been dealing with a shoulder issue that began in the spring and bled into the regular season, sprained an MCL in the first half of the loss to Vanderbilt last Saturday and did not return. That latest injury also forced the starting quarterback to the sidelines for the loss to the Tide.

For the Oct. 27 game against hapless Kentucky, though, it appears the junior is headed in the direction of being back under center for Mizzou.

"[T]hat’s the plan,” Franklin succinctly told the Columbia Daily Tribune.

The school has yet to give an official determination as to Franklin’s availability for the next game.

Corbin Berkstresser took over for Franklin in the Vandy loss, and has struggled in his six quarters of play. During that stretch, Berkstresser has completed well under 50 percent of his passes (21-of-59) and has thrown two interceptions vs. a lone touchdown.
