One Jones a go for UGA, another starting Jones out

For one of the biggest games of the Mark Richt era, Georgia will be getting one of the top defensive players in the country back from injury.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs will also lose a starter from the same side of the ball as well.

Defensive end Abry Jones suffered an ankle injury in the win over Kentucky last weekend. And, as expected, UGA confirmed Wednesday that the senior will not play in this weekend’s game against Florida.

Jones, who did not practice this week because of the injury, has started 26 games during his time in Athens. There are also reports that Jones underwent surgery and could miss the remainder of the season, although the school hasn’t yet confirmed such a development.

Richt said in quotes distributed by the team that sophomore Ray Drew will see more time at end with Jones’ absence, while also addressing another Jones’ status for the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party.

“Ray is going to get a bunch of snaps in this game, and I’m looking forward to seeing him play,” said the head coach. “Jarvis is excited to get back in there and help us too. This is one of the reasons he came back this season because he want to play in games like this one coming up.”

Jarvis Jones, the All-American linebacker, missed the UK game due to a sprained ankle incurred in the early-October loss to South Carolina. Richt had said earlier in the week that there was a “very good chance” Jones would be on the field for the Gators game.
