Texas O-lineman to miss Alamo Bowl with stress fracture

Texas will look to finish the 2012 season with nine wins by beating Oregon State in the Alamo Bowl, but the Longhorns will be without one of its best offensive lineman.

Guard Trey Hopkins needs season-ending surgery to repair a stress fracture in his lower right leg and thus will not play in San Antonio, team officials said Thursday. Hopkins, a junior, is a veteran lineman with 11 starts this season. He’s played in 36 games in his career and was a second-team All-Big 12 selection this year.

Additionally, the following players hampered by injuries should be good to go for the bowl game: defensive end Alex Okafor (ankle), running back Joe Bergeron (shoulder), defensive tackle Ashton Dorsey (concussion) and kicker Anthony Fera (hip).
