NY Giants assistant interviews for Temple vacancy

Nine months after leaving for a job at the NFL level, Matt Ruhle is looking to return to the campus from where he came.

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that the New York Giants assistant coach interviewed for Temple’s head coaching vacancy at some point Saturday. Should the assistant land the job, it would serve as the very definition of a coaching homecoming.

Rhule spent six seasons with the Owls before leaving this past March for the Giants. Rhule’s move came less than a month after then-head coach Steve Addazio added Ryan Day as co-offensive coordinator.

Addazio left Temple earlier this month for the same job at Boston College.

Rhule becomes the second candidate to interview for the position, joining current Owls defensive coordinator Chuck Heater. That pair likely weren’t the first to interview nor will they be the last as Bill Bradshaw has cast an expansive net in his search, with the Inquirer writing that the athletic director “estimates that Temple will interview 10 candidates in person and several others by phone.”

There are also reports that suggest current Miami defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio is being pushed for the job. The man reportedly doing the pushing for D’Onofrio? Former Owls and current Hurricanes head coach Al Golden.
