ESPN, SEC postpone Tuesday announcement in light of today’s event in Boston

Mike Slive AP

The tragic event in Boston earlier today has shifted our collective focus to more pressing issues. Football, as with many other things at the moment, has taken a back seat.

In that same vein, ESPN and the SEC issued a joint statement today announcing that tomorrow’s press conference, presumably to unveil the new conference network, has been postponed:

In light of the tragedy in Boston today, we have decided to postpone Tuesday’s SEC/ESPN press conference in Atlanta. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of those affected by these horrible events.”

Certainly, we echo those sentiments: our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected, whether directly or indirectly.

This is the best thing the SEC & ESPN could do.

There are relatives of a friend who ran in this year’s Boston Marathon. They saw the smoke and heard the explosions near the finish line in their sight. They did not know if to finish the race, but looked straight ahead and did not see a problem in the race path so they continued to finish, which they did and immediately went to help some they noticed just over the finish line who were injured.

Ben said it better so I will quote him:

“Certainly, we echo those sentiments: our thoughts and prayers go out to all affected, whether directly or indirectly.”
