Kevin Newsome switches positions again at Temple

Kevin Newsome‘s college career has been one on the move, so to speak. The former Penn State quarterback transferred to Temple last year, but after playing sparingly, moved to H-back this spring.

Now, Newsome’s trying a new position: running back.

“I think we are going to try to play Kevin more as a running back, more of a tailback type of body if he can do it,” Temple coach Matt Rhule said. “That [H-back] position is such a hybrid position. So you can tailor it one way or the other. … But I think Kevin is going to be more of a tailback.”

A spring-ending shoulder injury to Newsome allowed Chris Coyer, another former Owls quarterback, to emerge as the team’s leading H-back, prompting the move for Newsome.

Newsome, who will be a senior this upcoming season, carried the ball five times for 55 yards last year.
