Thanks to some connections, Butch Jones to attend Game 7 of NBA Finals

Bursting out of our college football bubble for a minute (it’s bright out here, y’all), we unnecessarily remind you that Game 7 of the NBA Finals between the Heat and the Spurs is tonight.

(Go Spurs. Go America.)

But one person who will be in attendance tonight for the deciding game will have college football ties. And, no, it’s not Johnny Manziel, who is currently paying off his parking ticket.

According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Tennessee coach Butch Jones will be in the American Airlines Arena tonight cheering on the Heat and coach Erik Spoelstra, a friend of Jones’ whom he met through sharing the same agent.

“We really hit it off,” Jones said of Spoelstra. “We started to build a relationship and that trust factor. We found out we believe in a lot of the same core values and principles about motivating and developing your team from a leadership standpoint. And then we just kept talking and talking.”

Jones is somewhat of a good-luck charm for the Heat. The former Cincinnati coach was in attendance last year when the Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 5 of the Finals to win the series 4-1. But something tells me playing Game 7 at home after an emotional Game 6 victory could help the Heat as well.
