Charles Sims set to begin working out with new WVU teammates

Even as West Virginia has yet to officially announce his addition to the roster, Charles Sims is set to begin integrating himself into Mountaineer football.

According to Mike Casazza of the Charleston Daily Mail, Sims is on campus and enrolled at WVU Monday. That means Sims will be eligible to join his new Mountaineer teammates for “voluntary” summer workout sessions.

Sims announced June 21 that he would be transferring to WVU. That move came a month or so after it was reported that the running back was abruptly and unexpectedly leaving Houston. As Sims will be a grad student at WVU, he will be eligible to play immediately in 2013.

A first-team All Conference USA selection in 2011 and a second-team selection last season, Sims led the Cougars in 2012 with 851 yards rushing and 11 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 37 passes for 337 yards and three more scores.

Sims might not be the only experienced addition to WVU’s backfield, however. Over the weekend, it was reported that former Pittsburgh running back Rushel Shell would be transferring to either WVU or Kentucky. Shell, who unlike Sims will have to sit out the 2013 season, will make his decision after taking visits to both schools.
