TCU’s second-leading tackler in ’12 leaves the team

On the heels of projected starting lineman Tayo Fabuluje leaving TCU for personal reasons, Horned Frogs coach Gary Patterson announced Monday that linebacker Joel Hasley has also decided to depart the program.

“I’d like to thank Joel for everything he’s done for TCU and his commitment to our program,” Patterson said in a brief statement. “Joel is very close to completing his second degree at TCU, and he decided it was time to move on from football. We will miss him and wish him the best.”

This is a big loss for TCU on the defensive side of the ball. The junior, who already received a communications degree and is close to finishing a geology degree, recorded 79 tackles last year and 8.5 tackles for loss, both good for second on the team.

Potential replacements for Hasley include Jonathan Anderson and Paul Dawson.

The Horned Frogs have plenty of starters returning from a 2012 team that won seven games with a young squad, but there’s nothing comforting about losing two key playmakers on both sides of the ball within one week.
