An offseason that included a drunk-driving charge and a fractured pinkie has reportedly ended in the expected: Washington’s All-American tight end won’t be available for the opener.
According to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times, Austin Seferian-Jenkins has been suspended by head coach Steve Sarkisian for the Huskies’ game Saturday against Boise State. The suspension, which stems from Seferian-Jenkins’ DUI following a one-car crash in March, could’ve been worse; Jude reports that Sarkisian had initially handed down a two-game suspension, but sliced it in half after the player met several of the coach’s disciplinary requirements.
The decision to suspend Seferian-Jenkins apparently has nothing to do with the tight end’s injury, either, as he had already been medically cleared to play in the opener against the Broncos.
Seferian-Jenkins, who was initially indefinitely suspended following the arrest, is the school’s career leader for tight ends in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. His name litters both preseason All-American teams and 2014 NFL first-round mock drafts.
