Yet another report: Brown about to resign

In case you haven’t had your fill of posts about Mack Brown’s coaching future today, here’s another.

ESPN.com reported on Tuesday night that Brown is expected to resign his job as Texas head coach by the end of the week.

From ESPN’s source:

“I know Mack, he’s friend, this is his decision, but he wants to tell his players and staff and not read it on the Internet,” the source told ESPN. “That’s why he reacted strongly to the [Orangebloods.com] report.

“I’d be real surprised if it hasn’t happened by Friday night with the [Texas] football banquet. I think it will be taken care of. It wouldn’t drag on much longer.”

The process has apparently been slowed down by the involvement of Brown’s agent, Joe Jamail, in a trial. But ESPN’s source seems adamant that Brown will definitely be gone soon.
“By the end of the week, that will be the outcome,” the source told ESPN. “That will happen. It’s a shame after 16 years he’s not able to do it on his own with dignity and grace.”

Another source told ESPN’s Joe Schad the same thing: Brown is about to resign.

At this point, there seems to be too much smoke for there not to be fire with regards to Brown’s future. (Not to mention all the noise around his potential successor.)
