Report: Lane Kiffin helping to evaluate... Alabama’s offense?

And, in other news, Lucifer is currently huddled in front of a heater wearing gloves and a parka while Mr. Dog announced his engagement to Miss Kitty.

Since being unceremoniously dumped by USC in late September, Lane Kiffin has kept a relatively low profile as he looks to find his next coaching gig. Monday, Kiffin resurfaced and did so in, of all places, Tuscaloosa.

ESPN.com‘s Brett McMurphy is reporting that Kiffin “is visiting Alabama this week to evaluate the Crimson Tide’s offense.” It’s unclear what bet Nick Saban lost that brought Kiffin to the Tide.

Kiffin was the head coach at Tennessee in 2009, infamously jumping ship for USC after just one season with the Vols. While Kiffin engaged in verbal fisticuffs with just about every coach in the SEC during his brief tenure on Rocky Top, there was very little bad blood between Kiffin and Saban, at least publicly.

Shortly after his hiring at UT, Kiffin did poach top recruiter Lance Thompson off Saban’s coaching staff. That move caused a bit of sniping between the two programs, although not nearly to the extent of Kiffin’s tiffs with Urban Meyer (Mike Slive put an end to those hostilities) and Steve Spurrier (Alshon Jeffrey, gas station attendant) and, well, pretty much the rest of the conference.

With Tide offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier‘s name being tossed about on the coaching rumor mill, could Kiffin be setting himself up as a potential replacement? That seems highly, highly unlikely, although I would pay good money to witness the spectacle that would be Saban and Kiffin working together for an entire season.
