Report: Former Penn State assistant Vanderlinden on the move to Air Force

Exactly two months after being let go at Penn State, it appears Ron Vanderlinden has found a new coaching home.

According to CoachingSearch.com, Vanderlinden is set to join Troy Calhoun‘s coaching staff at Air Force as an assistant. Vanderlinden’s official title was not detailed.

Vanderlinden had been an assistant at Penn State since 2001 and, along with defensive line coach Larry Johnson, was one of two holdovers from the Joe Paterno‘s final Nittany Lions staff. The linebackers coach was let go in early December, while Johnson left last month for the defensive line job at Ohio State.

The reported hiring of Vanderlinden comes a couple of weeks after the Falcons lost defensive coordinator Charlton Warren to Nebraska and defensive assistant Brian Knorr to Indiana. Calhoun announced a few days after losing Warren that inside linebackers coach Steve Russ had been promoted to coordinator. Vanderlinden could take over Russ’ former position.
