Jimbo approves: Winston suspended from FSU baseball team

Just a handful of hours after it first burst into the national consciousness, Crabgate is another step closer to ending its 15 minutes of meme fame.

As previously reported, Florida State’s baseball coach Mike Martin, confirmed Wednesday that Jameis Winston has been suspended from the Seminoles stick-and-ball team.  In addition to being a Heisman-winning quarterback on the reigning BCS champions, Winston is also a relief pitcher and designated hitter on the nationally-ranked FSU baseball team.

Earlier today, it was reported that Winston was cited for shoplifting crab legs from a Publix store Tuesday.  While there was initially some confusion regarding whether Winston was arrested and which department issued the citation, it was subsequently confirmed that Winston was cited by the Leon County Sheriff’s Department.

At a press conference that’s still ongoing, the LCSD confirmed that Winston was issued a civil citation for stealing $32.72 worth of product — crab legs as well as crawfish.  Winston, the law enforcement arm stated, admitted that he had forgotten to pay for the product and didn’t realize his mistake until he returned to his residence.  However, Winston also failed to return to the store to pay for the merchandise.

Winston will be expected to pay restitution to Publix in the form of $32.72.  If he fails to meet any of his obligations — community service, paying a minimal fine — his case would be forwarded to the State’s Attorney Office — the same office that declined to charge Winston with rape late last year — for prosecution.

As far as the university is concerned, Winston will be suspended from the baseball team until he completes community service — 20 hours — attached to the citation.  Additionally, Winston was fined $30.

From the Tallahassee Democrat:

FSU’s Athletic Department Code of Conduct/Discipline Policy provides that a student-athlete with a civil citation is eligible to practice and compete. The decision as to whether they are allowed to practice and/or compete rests with the head coach.

“I fully support Coach Martin’s decision and will also make sure Jameis meets all of his obligations, which I know he will,” FSU head football coach Jimbo Fisher said in a statement.

Martin said in his statement that he’s “confident… the situation will be resolved soon.

While not expressly stated, it’s believed that, football-wise, Winston will face no punishment from Fisher or the athletic department.

Of course Jimbo will. He knows that “Crab Leg” saved his job and is his #1 meal ticket going forward.

So now you have this guy who gets in trouble when he has things to do now with nothing to do………

  3. blacknole08 says: Apr 30, 2014 2:21 PM

Jimbo didn’t want him to play baseball anyways. So this is not a surprise.

No respect for this guy. Hope he never sees a snap in the NFL. If he does I hope he takes multiple blind side hits. What a low life!!

Suspend him from football as well and see if the song changes. Not just practice. Hour for hour of community service and game time. You can practice forever but nothing is stolen until you actually take it. Same with football – practice forever but nothing means anything until the first game snap.

First rape now theft, all we need now is for him to beat up a fellow student to complete the trifecta

This has been the best thing on the internet in a while.

What a load of BS. He forgot he didn’t pay for the food he took home. I know happens to me all the time!! JF will do nothing to this thug. If he doesn’t go to jail soon his rap sheet will be as long as he is tall. This is just another case of a start football player doing what he wants to do knowing nothing will be done to him. JF will figure out some way to make this go away. JW is nothing more than a thug.

Well, at least he didn’t sexually assault the crab legs*, which some might see as progress.

He does seem a bit absent-minded when it comes to food and drink tho….

    * not that we have any evidence that Winston has ever sexually assaulted anything or anyone, nor has any intention of doing so in the foreseeable future.

Just so long as he doesn’t get caught during football season.

All these young punks disgust me, stealing stuff! Back in my day, the alumni and program boosters bought stuff for the players.

Jameis has crabs….let’s see how the local police mishandle this investigation…..

Just another entitled moron playing a sport.

Just waiting for the follow on reports that (1.) the crab has an aunt that is a shark (lawyer), and (2.) the crab has been confirmed as a member of the FSU Cleat Chasers, a group whose overriding goal in life is to be eaten by football players. The inference will be that the cleat chasing crab legs just jumped into Mr. Winston’s pants as he was strolling out the door.

Embarassed to be largely overlooked in the circus, I expect we will hear from the crawfish next.

    He is guilty

“The Heisman Memorial Trophy annually recognizes the outstanding college football player whose performance best exhibits the pursuit of excellence with integrity.”

    Oops. Again.

They either need to take out those last two words or tell the voters that they actually mean them, and to actually consider the character of the guys they vote for.

It’s not a “who has the best stats” award.

Even if his story as to what happened in that alleged rape is 100% true, it showed he is not a person of integrity. A guy who will cheat on his girl like that is not an honest person. That lack of integrity is going to keep turning up unless he sorts himself out.

As they have said so many times: you can take the guy of the ghetto…but you can not take the ghetto out of the guy…

Some clever opposing OC will surely draw up a play called the “crab leg” this season.

  19. cubano76 says: May 1, 2014 9:41 AM

I can’t stand the kid as much as the next guy. But DAMN, using words like “ghetto” and. “Thug” I don’t know about that.

    thug scumbag

  21. whenwilliteverend says: May 1, 2014 5:08 PM

I’m confident he’s already been credited for the community service and won’t miss an at-bat or a relief appearance. I’m sure they already paid his fine for him too. I wonder how much they had to pay the LCSD so he didn’t get arrested. Maybe they should do what the Cowboys did with Dez Bryant and have someone follow him around to pay off people when he does something illegal.

  22. bamatexan says: May 1, 2014 6:58 PM

I also graduated from Hueytown high school (although much earlier than this thug). He is not representative of the residents when I graduated.
Florida State would sell its soul to keep this scumbag on their sports teams.
