2014 Irish LB signee, QB son of Cam Cameron sign with Hoosiers

Earlier this week it was reported that Nile Sykes, a member of Notre Dame’s most recent recruiting class, was contemplating a transfer from the Irish.

Just two days later, the contemplation has come to the end.

In a holiday morning press release, Indiana announced that the linebacker is one of two new additions to the Hoosiers football team. Sykes was recently given a release from his Notre Dame scholarship before deciding to move on to Bloomington to start his collegiate playing career.

“After Coach [Brian] Kelly and Notre Dame released Nile from his NLI, he reached out to us,” IU head coach Kevin Wilson said in a statement. “We recruited Nile hard and he was a guy we really wanted. We are happy to have him and welcome him into our program.”

A three-star member of the Irish’s 2014 recruiting class, Sykes was rated as the No. 20 inside linebacker in the country. Only three players on the defensive side of the ball in ND’s class this year carried a higher rating than Sykes.

In addition to Sykes, Baton Rouge high schooler Danny Cameron was added to Wilson’s roster as well. As you may or may not know, Cameron is the son of former IU head coach and current LSU offensive coordinator Cam Cameron.

Cameron, who wasn’t given a star ranking by Rivals.com in its evaluation of the Class of 2014, led Baton Rouge Catholic to a district title last season.

“Danny and Coach Cameron visited with us a couple weeks ago and we all feel confident that this is a strong fit,” Wilson said. “Danny adds depth to our quarterback position and we are excited to welcome him back to Bloomington.”
