Amidst crowded backfield, Chris Mangus transfers from Hokies

A logjam in Virginia Tech’s backfield has already prompted one of the players expected to fight for playing time to take his leave of the program.

According to the Roanoke Times, Chris Mangus has decided to transfer out of the Tech football program. There’s no word as to where the North Carolina native may transfer.

Mangus’ departure was reported the same day that Trey Edmunds, the Hokies’ leading rusher in 2013, was medically cleared for full participation after breaking his leg in the regular-season finale against Virginia.

Mangus was a three-star member of VT’s 2012 recruiting class, rated as the No. 30 running back in the country. Last season he rushed for 141 yards, with 76 of those coming on a touchdown run against Western Carolina.
