UPDATE: Florida reinstates Treon Harris after accuser drops complaint

Florida quarterback Treon Harris was suspended by the school while an investigation regarding an alleged sexual assault was ongoing. The university acted swiftly in suspending Harris. As of Friday afternoon, the accuser has reportedly dropped the complaint filed against Harris.

Just hung up with Huntley Johnson, said he is not going to comment beyond the simple fact Harris’ accuser has dropped complaint.

So, what does this mean? At first glance, it would appear Florida suspended Harris for nothing, but sometimes erring on the side of caution to allow the legal process is wise. However, in light of recent developments, Harris may feel vindicated in his response to all of this. As it relates to football, Harris has now missed an entire week of practice after seemingly becoming the best bet at quarterback in a win on the road at Tennessee last weekend. Florida still has to formally reinstate Harris before he can become eligible to play, although with the investigation off the field seemingly now behind him, this should be a matter of procedure for the university.

Harris previously had an appeal to his suspension rejected.

UPDATE (4:50 p.m. ET): Florida has officially reinstated Harris. Harris may resume team activities, but he will not play Saturday against LSU. The following statement comes from head coach Will Muschamp;

We have been notified that the University and legal process is complete. Treon has been reinstated to the team, but he will not play Saturday. This has been a learning experience for everyone involved. Treon has been honest with me throughout the process and is looking forward to rejoining his teammates.
