Former Vol TE Daniel Helm moves on to Duke

A little over two weeks after leaving Tennessee, Daniel Helm officially has a new college football home.

In a press release, Duke announced that Helm has signed a financial aid agreement with the school and will enroll for the spring semester that begins Jan. 7. Because of NCAA transfer rules, Helm will be forced to sit out the 2015 season, but he will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2016.

The tight end will, though, be permitted to participate in spring practice and then continue practicing with his new teammates throughout summer camp and on into the season.

As a true freshman, Helm started two of the 12 games in which he played for the Vols. He had six receptions for 37 yards during his first, and only, season in Knoxville.

A four-star member of UT’s 2014 recruiting class, Helm was rated as the No. 2 tight end in the country; the No. 6 player in the state of Illinois at any position; and the No. 120 player overall nationally.
