Alabama indefinitely suspends RB Tyren Jones

Alabama’s crowded backfield just got a little less packed. Rising sophomore Tyren Jones has been indefinitely suspended, the program announced Tuesday.

The nature of the violation that caused the suspension is not yet known.

“Tyren Jones has been suspended indefinitely for conduct not to the standard of the Alabama football program.” -- Nick Saban

After redshirting the 2013 season, Jones was the Tide’s fourth-leading rusher in 2014 with 36 carries for 224 yards and two touchdowns. He saw the most action in Alabama’s biggest blowouts - carrying seven times for 57 yards and a touchdown in a 52-12 win over Southern Miss on Sept. 13 and rushing 11 times for 75 yards and another score in a 48-14 win over Western Carolina on Nov. 22.

Jones also sustained a brief suspension during October of last year. He did not play in back-to-back games against Ole Miss and Arkansas. “If Tyren Jones does what he’s supposed to, maybe he’ll be back sometime soon,” Saban said at the time.
