Philip Lutzenkirchen’s high school to name field after late Auburn TE

Lassiter High School in Marietta, Ga., will name its football field after alum and former Auburn tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen, who tragically passed away late last June, per AL.com’s Brandon Marcello.

The Lutzie 43 foundation will cover the cost of installing new turf at the high school stadium, a total of $332,421.68. It’ll be named Lutzie 43 Field, which will be inside Frank Fillman Stadium, where Lassiter plays its games.

Lutzenkirchen, 23, was killed in a car accident in which alcohol was involved last summer. A former All-SEC tight end and one of the heroes of Auburn’s win over Alabama in the 2010 Iron Bowl that propelled the Tigers to a BCS Championship, Lutzenkirchen’s No. 43 was memorialized on Auburn’s practice field last year.
