Stopped for speeding, Vols’ Charles Mosley charged with DUI

For the second day in a row, it’s a DUI charge that involved speeding that’s triggered a resetting of the “Days Without An Arrest” ticker back to double zeroes.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports Wednesday evening that Tennessee’s Charles Mosley was arrested very early this morning following a traffic stop in the Knoxville area. The defensive lineman was charged with first-offense driving under the influence and speeding.

The stop was initiated as Mosley was clocked doing 79 mph in a 55-mph zone. As to what happened after Mosley was stopped by the officer...

The arresting officer noticed an odor of marijuana as he approached the vehicle, according to an arrest warrant.

...

“The defendant stated that he was not smoking, but his friends at the Econo Lodge were,” the arrest warrant states. Mosley subsequently performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the warrant. The arresting officer searched the vehicle and allegedly found “marijuana residue” in the front passenger area and back seat.

Mosley submitted to a blood test, the results of which will likely be available next month.

Last July, Mosley was involved in a car wreck the Tennessee Highway Patrol deemed serious enough that the 2014 UT signee was said to be “lucky to be alive.” The lineman sustained a broken leg in the accident, one in which he was a passenger in a vehicle that was being driven by a family member. Because of the injury, he missed the entire 2014 season and was limited during spring practice earlier this year.

Mosley was a three-star member of UT’s 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 25 offensive guard in the country. He was expected to begin his Vols career as a defensive tackle, although he’s listed as an offensive lineman on his official profile page.
