OU QB Trevor Knight, likely ticketed for A&M, being pursued by Auburn, LSU

In the end, Trevor Knight will likely continue his collegiate playing career at Texas A&M. Until he puts his Herbie Hancock on documents to make it official, however, the Aggies will reportedly have to fend off, among others, a pair of fellow SEC schools.

According to 247Sports.com, the former Oklahoma quarterback has received offers from both Auburn and LSU since receiving a release from his OU scholarship nearly a month ago. Both of those programs, however, the recruiting website writes, “feel that Texas A&M will ultimately land the fifth year senior when he makes his decision public.”

With OU out of the playoffs following a physical pounding at the hands of top-ranked Clemson, Knight is expected to announce his new destination at some point this weekend, or perhaps early on this upcoming week.

Georgia was also initially linked to Knight in the immediate aftermath of his decision to leave OU became public, although A&M, which has lost a pair of high-profile quarterbacks to transfer in the last month, quickly emerged as the front-runner for his services. Kansas State and Oregon were also rumored to be possibilities.

As Knight would be coming in as a graduate transfer, the San Antonio product will be eligible to play immediately in 2016 regardless of the FBS program he for which he opts. This upcoming season will be his final season of eligibility.

Knight started a total of 15 games in the two seasons prior to this year (10 in 2014, five in 2013), but lost the job to Texas Tech transfer Baker Mayfield in summer camp. As Mayfield put together a season that some thought earned him a spot as a Heisman finalist and still has another season of eligibility, Knight decided to look elsewhere for a better shot at playing time in his final season at this level.
