Charges dropped, Miami reinstates RB Mark Walton

It appears that one prominent Miami Hurricane has crawled out of Mark Richt‘s doghouse.

Monday morning, charges of driving under the influence and knowingly driving with a suspended license were dropped against Mark Walton. Monday evening, Miami announced that the running back, indefinitely suspended since April, has been reinstated to the football program.

The entirety of the release appears below:

Listed below is the Miami Athletics Department statement regarding Hurricane running back Mark Walton.

“Following today’s decision by the State Attorney’s Office to drop all charges against Mark Walton, and after addressing the matter with Mark, he has been reinstated to the football program.”

What was left unsaid in the release is whether Walton will face any other punitive measures, up to and including loss of playing time early on in the season.

As a true freshman last season, Walton led the Hurricanes with nine rushing touchdowns and 10 total touchdowns, and was second with 450 yards rushing. His 293 receiving yards were fifth on the team and tops among running backs. He was also second on the team with 1,054 all-purpose yards.
