Now there’s some visual evidence to add to the narrative involving a pair of Florida football players.
In mid-July, reports surfaced that a pair of Florida true freshmen wide receivers, Tyrie Cleveland and Rick Wells, had been arrested and charged with criminal mischief for damaging property and shooting a missile inside an occupied dwelling. Both of those charges are felonies. The two allegedly shot BB guns at and around a dorm on the UF campus, causing more than $1,000 worth of damage.
Thanks to a public records request by The Alligator, UF’s student newspaper, being fulfilled, the allegedly can be all but dropped. Below is the video released by university police department:
For those keeping score at home, that would be Cleveland with the dreadlocks and Wells in the backwards ball cap, with both holding BB guns that look very much like a real handgun. It’s unclear who the individual is in the white t-shirt seen propping open the door at the beginning of the clip.
The latter part of the clip shows some of the alleged damage caused by the BB guns.
Shortly after the initial news of the arrests surfaced, head coach Jim McElwain released a statement in which he vowed the two would face “consequences” for their alleged actions. Just what those “consequences” are not yet known, though.
“This is not behavior that we expect and as I often talk about their will be consequences for their actions,” the full statement read.
Cleveland was a four-star member of the Gators’ 2016 recruiting class, rated as the No. 2 receiver in the country and the No. 3 player at any position in the state of Texas. The only UF recruit rated higher in this last cycle than the Houston high schooler was defensive lineman Antonneous Clayton.
A three-star recruit this year, Wells was rated as the No. 8 receiver in the class.
