If you’re looking to hear from the POTUS along with seeing him tonight, you’re likely to be sorely disappointed.
As has previously been reported, President Donald Trump is expected to be in attendance Monday night in Atlanta for the Alabama-Georgia College Football Playoff national championship game. ESPN, which will broadcast the title matchup, told the Associated Press they’ve been in contact with the White House regarding the possibility of doing an in-game interview with the President.
At this time, it doesn’t appear likely they will land the interview.
“We’re still taking to the White House. I don’t get the sense he’s going to do an interview,” Stephanie Druley, ESPN senior vice president for events and studio programs, told the AP. “We will, obviously, show him at the game when we see where he is sitting.”
The President and the network don’t necessarily have the best of relationships.
After ESPN personality Jemele Hill call him a “white supremacist” on social media last year, the White House called for her firing. Instead, she was suspended by the network. This past week, fellow ESPN personality Katie Nolan referred to him as a “f------ stupid person.”
“We have looked into the totality of Nolan’s comments, they were inappropriate and we have addressed it with her,” ESPN told the Sporting News in a statement.
This would mark Trump’s second appearance at a college football game since he was elected in November of 2016. A month after the election, the President-elect attended the Army-Navy game.
