PODOLAK RETURNING TO IOWA’S RADIO BOOTH

Just a few short months after announcing his retirement from the radio booth, and after his turnabout where he sought “professional treament,” Hawkeye broadcaster Ed Podolak and Iowa announced that he will be returning to the radio booth for next season.

The University of Iowa athletics department and Learfield Sports are pleased to announce that Ed Podolak will be back in the broadcast booth on Saturday, Sept. 5th, when the Iowa Hawkeyes open the 2009 football season against Northern Iowa in Kinnick Stadium.

Podolak announced, in early January, he was retiring from his Hawkeye radio duties. Podolak recently met with Iowa athletics director Gary Barta and brought him up-to-date on his personal development. He also expressed an interest in returning to the booth. Barta and Podolak agreed that his return to the booth is something that pleases all Hawkeye fans.

Count me as one of the people happy that Podolak is back in the radio booth, even though I’ve never heard a single word that the man has uttered.

After photos surfaced at The Wiz of Odds, an overwhelming backlash and over-reaction got Podolak into hot water, probably because of the eery similarities to photos to former Iowa State coach Larry Eustachy.

Yet for all intents and purposes, Podolak’s fall from grace, retirement, and return would make Brett Favre proud.
