PRELIM HEARING FOR OLE MISS DB PUSHED BACK

Earlier today, CFT contributor and U.S. Ambassador to Lichtenstein Keith Arnold made note of the developments in defensive back and Ole Miss signee Jamar Hornsby‘s latest legal entanglement.Hornsby has been charged with aggravated assault for allegedly using brass knuckles in an attack that netted the DB $6 (US) earlier this year. Head coach Houston Nutt had previously stated that he would allow Hornsby’s case to wind its way through the legal system before making a final determination on the player’s status.Well, the coach will have to wait a lot longer before making that determination as Hornsby’s preliminary hearing, scheduled for today, has been pushed back. To August.Provided a plea agreement is not reached before then, the case involving Hornsby’s legal woes won’t resume until roughly the same time the Rebels begin their two-a-day practices.According to the Clarion-Ledger, Nutt did not “immediately respond to a message asking if Hornsby would be able to play or practice while the court case is still in limbo."Given Hornsby’s history, it will be interesting to see how long Nutt allows this situation to drag on with his school’s name attached to it.In May of 2008, Hornsby -- a Florida Gator recruit at the time -- was charged with using a dead friend’s credit card to purchase $3,000 worth of petrol following her death. His latest charge in Mississippi has certainly piqued the interest of Florida authorities as the safety was sentenced to one year’s probation for the credit card fraud. So, even if Hornsby untangles his Mississippi legal issues, he may still have to deal with the repercussions of his Florida case. Which makes it even more curious as to why Nutt has refused thus far to boot him to the curb. What’s that? The player in question is 6'3", 200 pounds, highly talented and hits like a squadron of Mack trucks?Never mind. That explains it all.
