Troubled Bruin Granted Release

Late last month, redshirt freshman safety E.J. Woods asked to be released from his UCLA scholarship.

Today, the Orange County Register has confirmed, Woods has been granted that release and will transfer from the school. The paper reports that the defensive back will likely move on to a junior college.

While supremely talented coming out of high school, Woods didn’t play at all last season because of academic issues.

Then, starting last year, Woods rang up six misdemeanor charges between October and January. Two of the counts, the Los Angeles Times reported back in March, were for sexual battery. The other four counts were for battery.

The charges against Woods stemmed from three separate incidents involving two different women.

In addition to Woods, UCLA confirmed that offensive lineman Sonny Tevaga is also transferring.
