RB To Play For Bowden In ’09 -- Just Not The FSU Version

Despite starting four games for Florida State last season, running back Marcus Sims has decided to transfer from the school this season, the St. Petersburg Times is reporting.

Sims will be heading to North Alabama, a Div. II school coached by Terry Bowden. The back will be eligible to play immediately as he’s not transferring to a Div. 1-A school.

Ernie Sims Jr., Marcus’ father who played for Bobby Bowden back in the 70’s, told The Times that there were no hard feelings toward the school on the part of the family.

“The Sims family always has and always will love Florida State,’' the father told the paper. “This departure of Marcus doesn’t say Florida State did anything wrong to us or Marcus.”

Sims’ mother reiterated that stance.

“It was not a very easy decision. Not with our bond with coach (Bobby) Bowden,’' Alice Sims said. “But at the end of the day, it was about what’s best for Marcus and what would make him happy.”

Last season, Sims rushed for 64 yards on 23 carries and scored a touchdown.
