Hilltoppers Name New LB Coach

Just as Western Kentucky is set to embark on their first “official” season in Div. 1-A football, they have added a new assistant into their coaching mix.

According to a press release issued by the school, head coach David Elson has named Kurt Barber as his new linebackers coach.

“Kurt is a tremendous addition to our program,” Elson said in a statement. “He has had a significant impact with successful Division I programs, which followed an outstanding playing career on both the collegiate andprofessional levels. He will have a positive influence on our playersboth on the field and off.”

Barber had previously spent time at Kentucky State (2008), UNLV (2005-2007), Utah (2003-2004) and Kent State (2001-2002).

“I chose the coaching profession because it allows me the opportunity to positively influence our youth,” Barber said. “I am extremely excited about this particular opportunity here at WKU. We have excellent leadership throughout the university, and I feel fortunate that I have placed myself and my family in a position where we are a part of a first class family.”
