Southern Miss Reinstates All-Time Leading Rusher

As if there was ever any doubt, Southern Miss has reinstated running back Damion Fletcher following a lengthy suspension.

Fletcher, who sits first in school history with 4,287 yards, was suspended this past February after being arrested for improperly discharging a firearm.

According to head coach Larry Fedora, Fletcher has been very contrite throughout the whole process, which likely played a significant role in the sanctions being lifted.

He has been reinstated,” Fedora told the Biloxi Sun Herald. “He has done everything that I asked of him. Damion could not have been more humble and sorry for what he did. He made a mistake and he is anxious to over come the mistake and get back in good grace with his teammates.

“He is in good grace with the coaches. I’m impressed with the way he handled this and we are ready to move forward.”

Fedora also addressed rumors that Fletcher would be suspended for the season opener.

“I’ve never said that. I’ve never indicated that,” the coach said.
